    Les Garennes by Vincent Gaudry is a unicorn wine not just because it reflexes the prephylloxeric era of Sancerre when red wines where the norm but also because it is produced from a nearly extinct old clone of Pinot Noir, known as Pinot Fin. Les Garennes has the wow-factor of an exceptional Burgundy, which would be far from surprising considering the proximity of the appellations and the limestone soil they have in common. Particularly rare and sought after it carries the fine aromas of Pinot Noir, with great depth and clarity, while on the palate it almost “dances”, with freshness and ethereal character one meets only in the best representatives of the variety.

    This specific vineyard has an age that surpasses fifty years and is planted on limestone terroir. It is vinified in open oak vats with whole bunches and no additives or intervention according to the hands-off approach of Vincent Gaudry. Depending on the attributes of each vintage the wine will remain for about fifteen months in old oak barrels inside the winery’s small warehouse. Absurdly hedonistic on the nose with flowers that remind of violet, dried cherry, framboise and a slight hint of oak and flint. An amazing depth and structure, velvety and elegant is at times better than your favorite red Burgundy.
