The “Reuilly” AC, albeit small, is one of the well-kept secrets for Sauvignon Blanc enthusiasts.

A at lesser extent, it comprises fresh and fruity Pinot Noir wines and one of the rarest French rosé wines, the Reuilly Rosé (Pinot Gris variety). Reuilly is overshadowed by the famous nearby regions of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé; however, this is not the case with Denis Jamain. This charismatic producer, based in Reuilly, gives some of the best wines not only of Reuilly but also of the Central Loire Vineyards. Denis Jamain, who took over the management of the family domaine in 1990, is largely responsible for the significant revival of the entire wine area of Reuilly which has moved far beyond its former status as the “poor man’s Sancerre.” In 1935, Denis Jamain’s grandfather planted the first family-owned vines in Reuilly. Together with the old vines, Denis inherited an oak forest on the outskirts of the village. Those oaks are harvested to make the oak barrels he uses for some of his wines. The vineyard is certified organic (2011) and biodynamic (2015). Denis Jamain has adopted a mild natural vinification approach in an effort to further enhance the excellent mineral expression of Reuilly terroir. The area of Reuilly has Chablis-like soil, full of marine fossils, that produces some of the best French white wines. Denis Jamain uses only indigenous yeasts, applies very light filtering and has minimized the use of sulphites in all of his labels. Each vineyard produces a single label in order to accurately express the different characteristics of each vineyard and year. In a region largely ignored by most wine enthusiasts, Denis Jamain, a true pioneer, has managed to produce wines that pay tribute to the excellent Reuilly terroir. Considering their extraordinary quality/price ratio, it would not be an understatement to say that his wines beat many of the famous Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé wines.
