Sourced from selected pieces of the organic vineyard of Fattoria Le Fonti, the Riserva version of the winery has that rustic charm one expects from its Chianti. Earthy and full of aromas of crisp, slightly acidic cherries, this lovely character wraps itself around elegant notes of tobacco, leather and spice, derived from 18 months of aging in French barrels. It's several steps up in structure and complexity from Fattoria le Fonti's simple Chianti, but without losing any of the enjoyment associated with the wine's extra licorice notes, herbal ethereal hints and juicy acidity.
Probably the closest you'll get to anarchetypal Chianti Classico, but one that is not just for immediate consumption, but worth waiting a few years for. If simple Chianti Classico or Meraviglie epitomize the casual and straightforward style of wine, here we have a more mature and aged version that manages to balance both pleasure and seriousness. If you don't want to wait for it, a good piece of grilled meat will have those tensions and flavours that will elevate the pairing.
