COZs vm-Castelão

Cozs is a unique project based on the regeneration of vineyards with local varieties in the Serra de Montejunto mountain range in the Lisbon region of Portugal. Even more, it aims to preserve the genetic diversity of the old vineyards in the region through mass clonal selection of the vineyards. Vm-Castelao is derived from the Castelao red variety and has been produced partly with whole bunches. Elegant with fruit, herbal character and a funky note on the nose, this is a wine that has tannin structure, freshness and high levels of acidity. On the scale it leans towards elegance without lacking power.

More info

The Vinha da Murta vineyard was planted in 2006 and contains many different clones of old vines from the region. The wine is partially fermented with bunches, using indigenous yeasts and then transferred to old Burgundy barrels for 11 months. The malolactic fermentation is completed spontaneously and the wine has an ethereal fruit, light animal notes, herbal-anthic character. Its sulfites are below 25mg/L. A great wine from a sensational project that gives even more depth to the Portuguese vineyard.
