What a great label. It's worth a thousand words and captures at once what Dão really is. A wall made of granite, the rock of the mountains of the region and the figure of an old woman walking with the help of a cane but with great courage and determination. How better to describe the Portuguese countryside and the dedication of people like João Costa to fight to continue the legacy left by their ancestors. So Cidade is a wine made from Tinta Pinheira, Trincadeira, Baga, Alfrocheiro, a bit of Touriga Nacional, Jaen and some other local varieties in a field-blend. The altitude of the vineyard is 500 metres and the age of the stumps is over 65 years. Winemaking is non-intrusive, with the wines fermented in open lagars with indigenous yeasts and no temperature control. The wine is matured for 15 months in old oak barrels and bottled after being naturally stabilized.
