The resumption of our "closed" tastings could not have been done in a more deafening way. On the occasion of the long-awaited launch of the new wines and labels of Yannis Oikonomou, MrVertigo is organizing the first-ever vertical tasting of the great producer's Sitia red at the top gastronomic destination of Athens: the newly built Delta restaurant, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
Count five different years of red Sitia Oikonomou. The tasting will continue with the restaurant's 18-course degustation menu in which, in addition to the vertical, the Brut Nature champagne of grower-producer Benoit Lahaye will also be served as a starter.
The rare experience is strictly for 14 participants only, with priority given to #MrVertigoWineclub members.
Of course there will be a waiting list for all those who express an interest in participating and the confirmation of the final participations will be done by November 30th at the latest.
A few words about Giannis Oikonomou:
Yannis Oikonomou, driven from the easternmost tip of Crete, has his own unique philosophy in everything he does. Secluded in the great terroir of Sitia, he produces deeply philosophical wines, with mild intervention, from pro-phylloxeric vineyards, consistent with his faith and the principles that govern him. Time itself has absolutely no significance. The vintages that are on the market do not have the logic of one harvest following the next. Decisions are made with instinct, patience and only when he himself considers that his wines are absolutely ready to be released. Even if the market has to wait a long time…
The result of this particular philosophy that governs him is always shocking. Authenticity, thinking outside of any limiting framework and a most honest rendering of the possibilities of Sitia's terroir. Wines that take you on a journey into the "soul" of the producer who works with respect on this shocking land.
The evening will be accompanied by Grigoris Michailos DipWSET.
