Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is the soul of Abruzzo’s vineyards, and Patch is its modern,unpretentious expression. Unlike the Lunaria range, which focuses on biodynamic philosophy and highlighting the unique characteristics of the terroir, the Patch Wine collection showcases the creative side of Cantina Orsogna through vibrant labels inspired by different textures and fabrics, where diverse elements coexist harmoniously within a single composition. Much like Abruzzo itself: mountains and sea, tradition and modern winemaking, power and elegance. Sourced from vineyards on the eastern slopes of the Maiella massif, Patch Montepulciano combines the generosity of the grape variety with the freshness provided by altitude. Fruity, vibrant and approachable, it bursts with aromas of cherry and sour cherry, complemented by subtle herbal notes that lead to a juicy, velvety palate with remarkable drinkability. Here, the Mediterranean sun leaves its unmistakable mark, giving life to a wine that authentically expresses the rich, succulent and generous character of Montepulciano.
100% Montepulciano from 20- to 25-year-old vineyards on the eastern slopes of Maiella, at an elevation of approximately 430 meters. The vines are cultivated using the traditional Pergola Abruzzese system on medium-textured limestone soils, and the harvest is carried out exclusively by hand during the first days of October. Maceration lasts approximately 14 days, occurring concurrently with alcoholic fermentation, which takes place at relatively low temperatures to preserve the variety’s fruity character. This is followed by a brief aging period in small oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation also takes place, adding further complexity and a velvety texture. The result is a Montepulciano full of vibrancy, with abundant red fruit, soft tannins, and excellent balance. An approachable and enjoyable wine to drink right away with comfort foods from Italian cuisine, such as a Margherita pizza.
