Passerina is one of the oldest white grape varieties of Central Italy and, for many years, lived in the shadow of its more famous relative, Trebbiano. Today, however, it is experiencing a remarkable revival, as more and more producers rediscover its freshness, aromatic intensity, and effortlessly charming character. Its name comes from both the small size of its berries and the sparrows (passero in Italian), which were particularly fond of its sweet, golden-yellow grapes. With Patch Passerina, Cantina Orsogna showcases the most approachable and easy-going side of Abruzzo. Inspired by different fabrics and textures, the label is dressed in shades of blue denim, symbolizing a wine that is authentic, unpretentious, and made to be shared. Aromas of citrus fruits, white flowers, and crisp stone fruit lead to a palate that is light, refreshing, vibrant, and delightfully easy to drink. Made from 100% Passerina grapes grown in thevineyards of Abruzzo, where the cooling breezes of the Adriatic Sea meet the mountain winds descending from the Maiella massif. The variety is renowned for its naturally vibrant acidity and expressive fruit character, making it ideal for producing fresh, approachable white wines. The grapes are harvested by hand, while the winemaking process is carefully designed to preserve the grape’s aromatic purity and natural vitality. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, followed by a short period of ageing on fine lees, adding texture and complexity without compromising the wine’s crisp, fruit-driven style. In the glass, it displays a bright straw-yellow colour with aromas of lemon, white-fleshed fruits, and delicate floral notes. The palate is light-bodied, crisp, balanced, and refreshingly vibrant, leading to a clean, fruity finish. An excellent match for seafood, vegetable-based dishes, and light Mediterranean cuisine. A wine that charms through its simplicity and immediacy, offering outstanding value for money.
