The most elegant and velvety of Bernard Baudry's line of superb Chinon, Les Clos Guillot vineyard is the closest thing to Burgundian character you can find in the great producer's Cabernet Franc. The soft, yellow limestone on the beautiful south, southeast exposure slope to the east of the picturesque Chinon gives this version of the varietal a stunning elegance, with the most feminine and appealing character in Baudry's entire range of wines. If the equally great La Croix Boissee is characterized by a more muscular and complex character, Les Clos Guillot showcases its delicacy and unsurpassed finesse as its weapons, but always with depth and intensity in the fruit.
The youngest vines on the hillside of Les Clos Guillot receive excellent care and always combined with a careful, totally traditional, look at winemaking. This traditional approach, with indigenous yeasts, concrete tanks and long ageing in old Burgundy barrels gives an incredible wine in purity of expression and fruit extract. On the nose, aromas on the verge of seduction emanating freshness of rose, crisp fruit and an extraordinary spicy note reminiscent of pepper. Balanced, wonderfully lively with successive layers of juicy cherry, anise and green pepper, with delicate tannins flowing through the palate offering a delight. It will age superbly but is already ready, elegantly expressive, perfectly balanced on the palate and with great length.
