Chandon de Briailles Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru "Les Lavières"

86,30 €

The grapes come from the mid-slope of the premier cru vineyard Les Laviéres with a southern, south-eastern exposure on limestone soils that give the Pinot Noir a lot of air and finesse. In fact, the name comes from the limestone slabs that were formerly used to cover the roofs of houses, a rock found in the subsoil just thirty centimetres from the surface of this vineyard. A very lively and aromatic style but with old vines approaching seventy years of age doing their magic with excellent texture and intensity of tannins. More full-bodied and serious than the Aux Fournau from the same producer, but always charmingly elegant.

More info

Absolutely traditional vinification with 100% whole bunches and maturation in old barrels for twelve to fourteen months. It's amazing how the old-fashioned approach lets the terroir shine by sharpening the subtle differences between vineyards. Delicate with fine lines but with nerve and substance alongside its floral and fruity profile - think rose, cranberry and fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins but also an ideal combination of freshness and ripeness in the fruit. The finish seals the minerality of the wine which is reminiscent of tobacco and gunpowder and is truly enjoyable.
