Chandon de Briailles Corton BLANC Grand Cru

239,40 €

The hill of Corton has a reputation for Pinot Noir as the only part of the Cote de Beaune that has grand cru vineyards for red wines. Somewhere in amongst its famous red vineyards, however, there is little room for Chardonnay. So white Corton is one of the rarest wines in all of Burgundy and Chandon de Briailles produces a masterful grand cru Corton from just 6 acres of vineyards with most of the wine coming from the Les Bressandes vineyard. Rich yet sharp in an exceptional year for the region, the Corton Blanc is absolutely generous, comparable to the top whites from the southernmost parts of the Cote de Beaune.

More info

Corton whites cannot carry the name of the specific vineyards on the label, as is the case with the red grand cru wines of the hill next to the word Corton. This wine comes from three different parts of the hill within the Corton Les Bressandes, Corton Chaumes and Corton Renardes vineyards. The wine was spontaneously fermented in barriques, demi-muids and 10hl oak tanks and matured for a total of 15-18 months with lees. Intense mineral but with enough fat and richness for ideal balance, with very nice fleshy fruit and an acidity that keeps everything under control. This gives the wine length on the palate and the fruit travels on a long stunning finish. We expect nothing less than a decade on the back that will take the complexity levels up a notch.
