Antoine Sunier Régnié "Montmerond"

29,10 €

To his stunning duo of cru wines from Morgon and Régnié, Antoine Sunier adds a single-vineyard wine made from old vines: the Montmerond in Régnié. Wines like these tell a different story of Beaujolais, acknowledging the region’s geographical distinctiveness and traditions, speaking of terroir in terms comparable to those of Burgundy or Champagne. This is perhaps the greatest contribution of the new generation to the region. Following organic farming and minimal intervention in the winery, it is now time to highlight great vineyards such as Montmerond, Gran Cras, or Côte du Py on the labels. The Régnié Montmerond, grown on shallow granitic soils at an altitude of 350 meters with a southern exposure, is a velvety, spicy, and structured wine with a long finish. Truly irresistible.

More info

Complex and mature, the Régnié Montmerond reveals stunning fruit framed by spicy notes and smoky minerality. Aromas of cherry liqueur, spicy red berries, and smoky herbs “overflow” the glass. On the palate, it is structured yet ethereal, with exceptional harmony, minerality, and concentration, while the finish unfolds with fruit, violets, and lavender in a rising “crescendo” of delight. This is an exceptional Régnié and another step forward for the great Beaujolais crus, demonstrating how producers like Antoine Sunier bring out all the subtle nuances of the terroir, just as they do in the world’s top wine regions.

Penetrating tensions with beautiful oxidation supported by notes of citrus peel and candied lemon. Give it time to open up and it will throw a party of aromas with saffron and curry, tobacco leaves, nuts such as walnuts and roasted almonds, and earthy notes of truffle. Full of umami on the palate, minerality reminiscent of peat and shellfish, intense...
