Beiorte Sr Roubado Branco

22,80 €

João Costa belongs to a new generation of producers that we meet not only in Portugal but in most wine regions of the world and they bring back our love and our faith in concepts such as tradition, heritage, authenticity, uniqueness. These producers are not nostalgic for the past, but are building on it and building on the future. They correct the mistakes of previous generations, in the case of Dão the mistakes of the Salazar dictatorship that 'destroyed' an extraordinary wine-growing region, and they reintroduce them to us as they should be. Sr Roubaro Branco is therefore a faithful representation of a magnificent terroir, steep, rocky, granitic soils and a climate with cold characteristics in the south of Europe. If you are a fan of minerality, energy and freshness it will give you exactly what you are looking for at a price that makes Santorini seem like an unapproachable Burgundy grand cru.

More info

The stunning field blend vineyards are located in the tiny isolated village of Santa Ovaia (where the winery is located) and harbour classic Portuguese "values" such as Fernão Pires, Bical, Malvasia-Fina and Encruzado among other varieties. The 500m altitude and the 45-65 year old vines on granitic soils give the wine both freshness and depth. The vinification is non-intrusive and the skins are left in contact with the juice for two days with the start of alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks where they will remain for ten months in total. Even if you can't remember the names of Sr. Roubado's varietals the combination of energy, saltiness, minerality along with a mild botanical dimension will reveal just how wonderful wines from this part of Portugal can be.
