Gauby Calcinaires Rouge

25,10 €

For many years it was a second-rate region, a region engraved in our minds simply as the second compound of the chaotic Languedoc-Roussillon. An endless source of cheap mass-produced wines, in fact overripe alcoholic fruit bombs. Who could have imagined that producers like Gerard Gauby would reveal the real truth of the Roussillon that today puts itself in contention for the best reds of the French South? Calcinaires Rouge is the most wonderful introduction to Gerard's wines from the region's classics Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache and Carignan. The cup vines are the youngest on the estate and the cultivation is detailed and biodynamic, adapted to the heat and wind of the region. The peppery fruit stimulates the ripe and round mouthfeel in a wine that carries the wonderful freshness of youth.

More info

The wine is fermented with spontaneous yeasts in a combination of cement and oak tanks and is matured for eight months in them. It has that lovely peppery character of the Rhone wines but with very restrained alcohol and more fresh than overripe fruit. The tannins are soft and flowing on the palate, possessing both breadth and density. There's nothing to hide its Mediterranean origins but nowhere is there the element of excess and jammy fruit that is often found in wines from the South. The key to Calcinaires Rouge is its magical balance.

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico is yet another example of the finesse and delicacy of the wines of Paolo de Marchi. Fresh and juicy with the classic notes of red cherry, mint and licorice, wrapped around the typical fine tannins of Sangiovese and all this on top of a palate that is overwhelming you with the freshness of its acidity. Elements of smoke and a...

    2003 - Loire - 500ml

On the one hand, great aromatic and flavour concentration, intensely oily sensation and richness in the mouth. On the other hand, excellent range, air and freshness. Multi-layered flavours and aromas, notes of quince, toast, caramel, along with strong dry-fruit elements. Richly sweet but with terrific lift and spirit leading to an exciting finish with...
