The plain of Alina is a place name in the area known as Vouni Panagia. It was from those vineyards that Andreas Kyriakidis produced his first Xynisteri in 1987. To this day, the estate's excellent Xynisteri borrows its name from this area and is produced from a number of many different vineyard plots at altitudes ranging from 800 to 1150 m. Stunning limestone and slate soils and autiris cups, whose age even exceeds 90 years, give Vouni Panagia's Xynisteri nerve, minerality and a firm character at the start. With bottle ageing, the wine will impress with the honeyed and petrol mineral character it develops. Xynisteri is an indigenous white variety "diamond" of the Cypriot vineyard.
Think about how many white wines on the planet you can buy in the 15 euro price range that come from an altitude of up to 1150m, vineyards that are on average 70-80 years old and can age fantastically. One such wine, from the untouched terroir of the highlands of Paphos, is Alina. An excellent capture of the wild terroir of the area known as Vouni Panagia with elegant fruit such as lemon, grapefruit and peach, mineral notes and a palate that has moderate alcohol and pulses with acidity and minerality. The wine has been vinified with spontaneous yeasts, exclusively in stainless steel tanks and has been left in contact with fine lees for a period of about 7 months. It ages extremely well.
An awesome balance of freshness and oxidative character, a hint of honey aromas and richness reminiscent of the equally wonderful sparkling wines from the Chenin Blanc variety.
