Antonio Madeira Dão Palhete "Ainda"

23,80 €

In Portuguese, Ainda means "still," a word borrowed by Antonio Madeira for a wine that continues one of Portugal's most historic winemaking methods. "Palhete" were traditionally wines made from field blend vineyards in various regions of Portugal. These vineyards are now the "treasure" of the leading Portuguese wine producer who brings the highlands of the Dão region to the forefront. At an altitude of over 500m, scattered field-blend vineyards have been preserved, hosting over 40 different varieties among their vines. White and red varieties are blended together, with 25% white grapes adding richness and softening the tannins of "Ainda," which, as tradition dictates, is drunk much more immediately. The wine brings a wonderful past to life with its gently rustic character on the palate and fantastic fruit: lively, intense, full of energy.

More info

Antonio Madeira's revival of Palhete brings multiple layers of elegance, freshness, and immediate pleasure to the glass. Ainda is a true evolution of the traditional Portuguese wine style, where white and red varieties are vinified together and, following some of the inspiration of the great Burgundian Henri Jayer and his famous techniques, he manages to redefine a once rustic wine into an ethereal, delightful aromatic expression of the Dão region. The grapes are purchased from local growers in the region who maintain vineyards up to 100 years old. The vinification is done by hand and the wine will mature for about 8 months only in stainless steel tanks, maintaining energy, fruit, intensity, and finesse.
