Sclavos "Zakynthino"

Euripides Sklavos' more unorthodox, natural "take" on the Zakynthino variety is a real revelation that broadens taste horizons and reinforces the concept of diversity. Zakynthino comes from a small, 20-year-old vineyard owned by the Metaxas family and, like all Sklavos wines, is produced using gentle natural vinification. An excellent example of the producer's style, it achieves a delicate balance between a creamy, rich texture and intense minerality, leading to a warm, dry, slightly oxidative note. Zakynthino is the ultimate antidote to uniformity and a perspective that wants – a priori – all wines today to offer crystal clarity, fresh aromas, and lemony fruit.

More info

As the name of the variety suggests, Zakynthino traveled years ago from Zakynthos—where it is known as "Pavlos"—to Kefalonia. That is where the similarities end, as the wines from the two islands are very different, both in terms of grape variety and taste profile. Sklavos' Zakynthino follows a gentle natural vinification protocol in 500-liter barrels, where it remains for a year. Gentle oxidation in color and aroma, with dried fruit, honey, almond, and a hint of leather, while the palate is almost intoxicated by the intensity of the minerality. The fresh acidity cuts through the creamy, honeyed sensation of the wine like a knife. Another special wine with depth and soul from Eurybiadis Sklavos.
