Pataille Marsannay Blanc "La Charme aux Prêtres"

154,80 €

From this exceptional vineyard, Sylvain produces both one of his renowned single-vineyard Aligotés and an outstanding Marsannay Blanc made from Chardonnay, of course. The name refers to the vineyard’s extremely rocky terroir (with many limestone stones), which likely belonged to the church in the past, hence the word “Prêtre,” meaning priest. The vineyard extends across the middle to lower section of the slope at an elevation of approximately 280–300 meters, facing east. The wine is characterized by a reductive, mineral dimension, with intensity and energy that balance beautifully with its creamy texture on the palate. Another exceptional Chardonnay with length, balance, and aging potential from Sylvain Pataille, showcasing Marsannay as a source of “great” wines.

More info

Marsannay is the northernmost part of one of the world’s most prestigious wine-growing regions, the renowned Côte de Nuits. And while the Côte de Nuits is primarily a source of red wines, Marsannay is the village that stands out for both the white and rosé wines it produces, part of the appellation d’origine contrôlée. This particular vineyard, with its alternating limestone soils, is one of the region’s exceptional lieu-dits, and the Marsannay Blanc is organically certified by Sylvain Pataille. After gentle pressing, the wine ferments spontaneously with native yeasts and will age for a total of 24 months in oak barrels (1/3), with a low addition of sulfur dioxide only at bottling. A masterpiece of intensity and balance.

Penetrating tensions with beautiful oxidation supported by notes of citrus peel and candied lemon. Give it time to open up and it will throw a party of aromas with saffron and curry, tobacco leaves, nuts such as walnuts and roasted almonds, and earthy notes of truffle. Full of umami on the palate, minerality reminiscent of peat and shellfish, intense...
