Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Ile des Vergelesses"

135,80 €

Depth and complexity that bring to mind more of a grand cru vineyard. It is no coincidence that the premier cru vineyard Île des Vergelesses was historically divided over whether it should be designated as grand or premier cru in 1936 when Burgundy's vineyards were officially classified. So this is a sublime Burgundian terroir with focused fruit, freshness, minerality and wonderfully structured tannins that hug you like a feather pillow, leading to a perfect balance. A brilliant example of the classic beauty of the great wines of Burgundy, an aromatic firework, powerfully harmonious yet perfectly measured. A unique work of art.

More info

The vineyard is located at the top of the slope facing the iconic Corton hill that stands opposite with its famous grand cru. The clay-limestone soils and the vines, averaging forty years old, are cultivated according to the principles of biodynamic farming. The east-northeast exposure of the vineyard means a slightly cooler mid-climate and a later harvest than other neighbouring vineyards. A fact that provides the wine with a lot of pulse, vitality and tension. Floral on the nose, with an excess of red and black fruit, elegant barrel and a mouthful of minerality that vibrates the medium-bodied body and further enlivens the peppery fruit. Sophisticated tannins, intense yet elegant at the same time with a long, enjoyable, spicy finish. Vinified with 80% whole bunches in concrete tanks and matured for over a year in old oak barrels. It will definitely age superbly for at least a decade, in the back of the cellar so that you won't be easily tempted.
