Ch. Climens Asphodèle

Up until 2018, the first year of Asphodèle’s vinification, the context was very specific. Château Climens was one of Bordeaux’s most renowned estates, and its sweet wines, produced from noble rot grapes in the Barsac appellation (a subregion of the famous Sauternes), stood as the counterpart to Château d’Yquem. In fact, Climens offered a more refined style of sweet wine, in contrast to the intense concentration of Yquem. In a region where sweet wines were and remain the norm, Asphodèle changed the game for Climens. A dry wine that expresses the character of Sémillon—the grape that makes up 100% of the estate’s vineyard—with absolute clarity. This is a great dry Bordeaux, impressing with its finesse and freshness, elegant on the palate with energy, minerality, and a remarkable length of finish. Asphodèle is not merely a modern interpretation of the Barsac region, but of Bordeaux as a whole—a wine with its own identity, free from the “classic” oaky character of other wines from the region, and the result of biodynamic viticulture and profound respect for this exceptional terroir.

More info

The name Asphodèle comes from the asphodel flower, a symbol of light and rebirth, a character that is reflected in the wine itself: bright, refined, and full of energy. It represents the renewal of a region through a different approach—perhaps atypical, yet extremely timely for its era. Vinification is carried out with respect and without intervention. This natural approach mirrors the philosophy of Château Climens, focused on creating great wines with authenticity and reverence for nature. The estate practices fully biodynamic viticulture, enhancing both the health of the vineyards and the expression of the terroir. Harvesting is done by hand, selecting only the healthiest and ripest Sémillon grapes. Fermentation takes place exclusively with natural, indigenous yeasts in cement vats, preserving the freshness and purity of the fruit. The result is a lively, authentic, and expressive wine, one that captures the essence of the terroir, as if you could read it directly from the glass, and showcases the purity of this exceptional grape variety at its absolute peak. It is a wine with many years ahead for aging.

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico is yet another example of the finesse and delicacy of the wines of Paolo de Marchi. Fresh and juicy with the classic notes of red cherry, mint and licorice, wrapped around the typical fine tannins of Sangiovese and all this on top of a palate that is overwhelming you with the freshness of its acidity. Elements of smoke and a...

On the one hand, great aromatic and flavour concentration, intensely oily sensation and richness in the mouth. On the other hand, excellent range, air and freshness. Multi-layered flavours and aromas, notes of quince, toast, caramel, along with strong dry-fruit elements. Richly sweet but with terrific lift and spirit leading to an exciting finish with...
