Iliana Malihin's Rhea is a stunning Otter from the area of Fourfouras in the highlands of southern Rethymnon. The vineyard is estimated to be between 90 and 140 years old and is a cultural heritage that the young winemaker is striving to preserve and spread further. After all, Rethymno is not just credited with the origin of the amazing Vidiano variety, but with the contribution of old vine growers, it has managed to preserve a priceless, small treasure trove of old autochthonous stumps that showcase the amazing potential of the Cretan variety. Vidiano old vines Rhea is a highly concentrated wine with an excellent balance of fruit and acidity, voluptuously thick yet fresh at the same time with beautiful aromatic expression, and the ripe fruit of the variety at the forefront.
Facing such a great terroir you can only stand in awe and respect. The effort to minimize interventions is aimed at enhancing the potential of the old vineyards. They seem to unfold their "memories" in the wine, giving great complexity and absolute balance. Without excesses, but full-bodied and rich, with charmingly ripe fruit along with multiple aromatic nuances. But everything is in balance, without excesses or a tendency to premature sensationalism. As if the wine carries the "wisdom" of its old stumps. The Rhea old vines remained in contact with the fine lees for a year and was vinified with spontaneous yeasts. Cretan music "accompanied" the wine throughout its maturation in the winery. The wine was bottled with minimal sulphites and without any other intervention.
