The “ultimate” expression of an orange vinification of Morokanella, from a specific vineyard parcel at 800 meters altitude in the Panagia region of Paphos. Part of the experimental winemaking efforts in which Yiannis and Pavlos Kyriakides explore the full potential of Cypriot grape varieties, Nature’s Vengeance is a wine with a mildly hazy orange hue, candied citrus aromas on the nose, subtle tropical notes in the background, and a gentle oxidative “touch.” The 45-day skin contact has given the wine a firmly tannic, almost wild, palate, yet the warm alcohol is perfectly aligned with the wine’s pronounced acidity. A wine with a beautiful finish reminiscent of almond-based sweets. Not the orange wine to begin exploring the style with—but certainly one that doesn’t lack personality or character.
The grapes come from the Syrizas vineyard parcel at 800 meters altitude — a vineyard cultivated organically, without irrigation, with bush-trained (goblet-pruned) vines. In the winery, the wine is made without intervention: spontaneous fermentation of the must, full skin contact maceration for 45 days, and aging on the lees for 6 months. The wine is bottled unfiltered and without the addition of sulfur. Close your eyes, and it resembles a red wine on the palate — tannic and intense. But it also has this clean character of citrus peels, kumquat, and mandarin that gives it an incredible lift. With such structure, it has the potential to age beautifully in bottle.
