Liga Asyrtiko Barrique

What better comparison than Asyrtiko, the “diva” of the Greek vineyard, with the greatest Greek soprano, Maria Callas. Asyrtiko Barrique, an orange version of Asyrtiko, is a true diva in the glass, a wine that combines intensity, depth, and absolute expressiveness. Its deep golden color hints at a character that breaks away from the stereotypes of Asyrtiko. The nose, slightly oxidative, evokes great oxidative wines from around the world, with notes of dried fruit, nuts, and orange peel. On the palate, it is full-bodied, round, and multi-layered, with an almost theatrical evolution—intense, structured, complex, and well-rounded. As it warms in the glass, it reveals a subtle sweetness and even more layers of complexity, like a grand aria that unfolds over time. A great Assyrtiko that showcases all the power, breadth, and uniqueness of the variety.

More info

Asyrtiko Barrique comes from 18-year-old vineyards in Pella, planted in limestone, clay, and granite soils, with a north–south orientation and cultivated organically using permaculture principles. The harvest is done by hand, and fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. This is followed by maceration with whole grapes for 7 days in a stainless steel tank (17–18°C), while the must is transferred to 400L oak barrels to complete fermentation. The wine ages for 9 months on fine lees in the same barrels before bottling, without filtration or the addition of sulfur dioxide. It is full-bodied with balanced acidity (milder compared to the island Assyrtiko wines), featuring an oxidative aromatic profile, depth, and a long finish.

Penetrating tensions with beautiful oxidation supported by notes of citrus peel and candied lemon. Give it time to open up and it will throw a party of aromas with saffron and curry, tobacco leaves, nuts such as walnuts and roasted almonds, and earthy notes of truffle. Full of umami on the palate, minerality reminiscent of peat and shellfish, intense...
