Kydonitsa Barrique is not just a wine; it is a small performance in a glass, like those iconic scenes that Katina Paxinou (whose sketch adorns the label) transformed into living magic on stage and on screen. The personality of this great actress evokes authenticity and expressive power, mirroring the philosophy of this exceptional wine—rare, expressive, unique. An orange wine made from Kydonitsa that clearly evokes the character of the variety with its characteristic quince and ripe fruit notes, gaining in expression and depth from its barrel aging. Exotic, exuberant, full of power, yet at the same time unpretentiously charming, with a creamy texture and precision in its expression.
100% Kydonitsa grapes undergo orange maceration with whole berries, which are left to macerate for 7 days in stainless steel tanks. It is then transferred to 400L Austrian oak barrels, where fermentation is completed, and it remains there in contact with the lees for 6 months before bottling. Exotic fruits and floral notes on the nose, a nutty character and peel notes give way to a palate rich in creamy texture and complexity. The mature presence of the barrel is subtle but adds depth and roundness, while the acidity balances the wine, imparting freshness and vibrancy. A wine that honors the history of the variety and the Ligas family’s dedication to natural winemaking—a meditation-style Kydonitsa with a much deeper and more substantial character.
