The warmest vineyard sites of Rully, such as Rabourcé, Cloux, and Raclot, are located in the northern part of the appellation. Here, the key features are lower vineyard altitude, better protection from winds, and steeper slopes. The “1er Cru Cloux,” planted with both Chardonnay and a small amount of Pinot Noir, lies at the heart of the Premier Cru hillside of Rully. It beautifully combines an immediately expressive aromatic profile—ranging from ripe citrus fruits to floral notes—with an elegant, relatively light and harmonious palate marked by mineral nuances and a long finish. One of Pierre de Benoist’s favorite wines, cherished for its graceful silhouette reminiscent of Puligny-Montrachet.

One of the great terroirs of Rully, this beautiful Premier Cru combines the soft, perfectly ripened fruit from the east-facing slopes of “Les Cloux” with classic spicy, peppery elements. Its edges are gently rounded by beautifully integrated oak. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically, and the wine is aged in a combination of barrels and demi-muids. Tasting Pierre de Benoist’s Premier Crus from south to north—moving from cooler to warmer sites—reveals a transition toward a fleshier, riper fruit character. “Les Cloux” sits precisely at the point of perfect balance between freshness and ripeness.
