Dalamara Naousa

If Xinomavro is Greece’s greatest red grape variety, then Kostis Dalamaras — a sixth-generation winemaker at the historic family estate in Naoussa — is one of its most important interpreters, both of the variety itself and of the local terroir. While his iconic Paliokalias, one of the first single-vineyard Xinomavros in Greece, stands as a benchmark — combining the structure of a Nebbiolo with the aromatic finesse of a Côte de Beaune — his “classic” Naoussa may be the perfect gateway into the world of Xinomavro. A true gem in terms of value for money. In the glass, it unfolds aromas of raspberry, ripe plum, and a hint of tomato paste. On the palate, balance is the key: fruit, acidity, and tannins in perfect proportion, with finesse and freshness that make the wine immediately approachable, yet without lacking depth or character.

More info

The nose is rich and hedonistic, with the typical “signature” of Xinomavro in full display. On the palate, however, the experience gains more tension: the variety’s characteristic “bite” is present, though not sharp — more of a reminder of its true identity. Neither rustic nor modern, the wine strikes a flawless balance between fruit and structure. A 12-month maturation in used French oak barrels adds subtle layers of complexity without masking the core of the fruit. Bottled unfiltered, it already shows impressive balance today but also promises to evolve beautifully for at least another five years.

Penetrating tensions with beautiful oxidation supported by notes of citrus peel and candied lemon. Give it time to open up and it will throw a party of aromas with saffron and curry, tobacco leaves, nuts such as walnuts and roasted almonds, and earthy notes of truffle. Full of umami on the palate, minerality reminiscent of peat and shellfish, intense...
